2000 Census information on Gay and Lesbian Couples, Summary File 2

The U.S. Census Bureau has begun to release the statistics of Summary File 2, which includes 250 population groups: the Population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska Native tribe categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes), and 39 Hispanic or Latino groups.

The presentation of SF 2 tables for any of the 250 population groups is subject to a population threshold of 100 or more people. That is, if there are fewer than 100 people in a specific population group in a specific geographic area, their population and housing characteristics data are not available for that geographic area in SF 2.

As it relates to same-sex partners, SF 2 is of limited value, since it only includes the race group of the main householder. The race group or origin of the partner of the main householder is not indicated. Hence, it is impossible to determine how many of these couples are of the same race group or origin, or interracial.

The Census has established several subcategories of the race groups, which make total tabulation a little tricky. These are the tables which have been tabulated, so far, at gaydemographics.org:

Table(s)

All groups, national. Census order A table with every single group (all 250 of them), in the order organized by the Census. It follows a certain logic.
All groups, national. Alphabetical order A table with every single group (all 250 of them), in alphabetical order. Unless you understand the way the Census creates and names the groups, this table can be a little confusing.
All groups, national. By percentagel. A table with every single group (all 250 of them), by proportion of same-sex couples in ethnicity.
All groups, national.
